# How customs duty on an electric kettle is calculated in Saudi Arabia

Electric kettles fall under HS 8516.79. Saudi Arabia needs the full 12-digit code, the duty is charged on the CIF value, VAT is charged on value plus duty, and the kettle usually needs SABER certificates first.

## Worked method on a hypothetical value

Assume a CIF value of USD 10,000. Read the duty rate for your 12-digit line from the current tariff; call it *d*. Call the VAT rate *v*.

| Step | Formula |
|---|---|
| Duty | 10,000 × *d* |
| VAT base | 10,000 + duty |
| VAT | VAT base × *v* |
| Total at the border | duty + VAT |

We do not print a rate here because rates change. Purserhouse does not yet calculate Saudi duty: the ZATCA tariff is not available to it as a file, so a Saudi duty figure is answered as "not calculated". Check the current line on the ZATCA tariff yourself.

## Why the 6-digit code is not enough

The invoice from the factory often shows 8516.79. The Saudi declaration needs 12 digits, and different 12-digit lines under the same 6 digits can have different treatment.
