# How a freight quote is compared with the market

Your quote is compared with the median of at least three forwarders on the same lane, container size and surcharge basis. If the gap is under 5%, the answer leaves it out because it does not change your decision.


## Rules

- **Three sources minimum.** With fewer, we say "we do not have enough data for this lane yet."
- **Like with like.** Rates with and without surcharges are never mixed. 20-foot and 40-foot are never converted into each other.
- **Outliers out.** A sheet far from all others does not enter the median.
- **No public index for your quote.** Public index terms do not allow benchmarking a quote, so indices are used only to describe the overall market trend, with the source named.
